RYAN TAN
(Freelance Programmer)

Ryan has been homeschooled since 6 years old until now. He started showing interest in computer programming when he was 8 years old, picked  up knowledge from various books, internet and other avenues. He became resourceful in finding materials that he needed to fuel his interest. When he was 13 years old, through his mother’s love and support, he had opportunity to learn from professors and lecturers at NUS. This experience gave him opportunity to work with 8BIT. Now that he’s 18 years old, he works as a freelance programmer.

As a homeschooler, he had seen everything and anything as a learning opportunity to gain knowledge. This opportunity also comes with a chance of failing for million times, but in a safe environment. And he learned as he made those mistakes, just like how science worked before us. As a result, he could find his own path at his own pace.

His love of sharing is very inspiring, as he was saying: “It is an honour to be invited to be a judge for this year’s Homeschool Science Fair, I look forward to seeing all of your ideas… That’s, even if they don’t all turn out perfectly”.

Mr Wendell Wong
